• Classified Newspaper Ads are probably the most commonly used form of job searching. Several local newspapers in Sarasota County publish ads for open positions.
• Websites are gaining in popularity. While some are free, others will charge you for their services, so carefully research your options.
• Networking Events are a great way to meet people and to expand your job search contact base. Networking is the key to a job search. Networking events may include Chamber of Commerce events, open network meetings, and various community organization meetings and events.
• Trade Journal Ads are an effective way to search for jobs in a particular trade or industry.
• Job Fairs can be a great way to meet a lot of employers at one time. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune presents two major job fairs each year (April & October), and Jobs, ETC routinely hosts job fairs throughout the year for employers. Individual companies may also advertise their own job fairs in the classified section of local newspapers.
• Internships are a great way for students to explore career options and to make a positive impression on a company you would like to work for after graduation.
• Business Publications are a great resource to find out what companies are growing (and possibly hiring), who is new to the area (and possibly hiring), and what issues are affecting the local business climate.
